Bedford is a town that you will find in Bedfordshire United Kingdom. The large location is also the location for the administration dealing with the Borough of Bedford. A rather populated area that has been around for years.
Known as a market town for years, and also for the agriculture that you will find around it. Wool was once a very important trade during those Middle Ages. It would become a boundary town that would separate those locations of Danelaw and Wessex in 886.
The home of the first fortress that would be built by Edward the Elder in 919. Though the fortress would be destroyed later on by a Danish invasion. The mounds of Bedford Castle are located in this area, it was built in 1224.
The first charter is found to have been issued by Henry II during 1166. While the lace industry would be one that would prosper in this area during the 1560s. This industry remained very important all the way through the earliest part of the 20th century.
This would be the location that John Bunyan would be imprisoned for twelve years of his life. Also where he would pen his work The Pilgrims Progress. With the decline of the wool industry the town would turn to more of an engineering focus. Becoming a big hub for many fine developments.
A wonderful memorial has been erected in the garden to those past soldiers of the First World War. You will find that opposite the Rothsay Gardens. It was designed by Charles Sargeant Jagger in 1921. Another wonderful location to check out is that of St. Pauls Church. A large spire stands tall above the building that was built in 1066.
Also the largest urban park where you can enjoy concerts and cricket, at Bedford Park. Still retaining a look of the Victorian design and a great place for families to relax and enjoy the wonderful location. Another park in the area is Priory Country park that is on the River Ouse.
