There are not many fun-too-distant places to go during the winter away from the frost. My favorites are California, Florida, Hawaii, Mexico and the Caribbean. (Actually, I live in California, so I do not go there on holiday!)

California is my favorite state. I lived there for about half of my life and I never get tired of it. Both Northern and Southern California are quite exciting in very different ways. When people think California, they usuallyto think in Southern California - the beaches, Hollywood and Disneyland. These are all very fun places to visit. The three most important cities in Southern California, Los Angeles, San Diego and Santa Barbara.

Northern California is a different world. San Francisco is a beautiful, big, old city, surrounded by water on three sides, the San Francisco Bay in the east, the Golden Gate in the north and the Pacific Ocean in the west. The Bay Area is the City of San Francisco, consistingof the nine counties along the bay from San Francisco and is one of the largest metropolises in the country. It includes San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, San Rafael, Santa Rosa, and San Jose.

Hawaii is the southernmost state. It consists of eight islands: Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe and Hawaii. Hawaii is geographically the largest island and home to the volcano Mauna Kea, the tallest mountain on the islands. All islands were created from volcanoes formed. HonoluluThe capital and largest city in Hawaii, is on the island of Oahu. Hawaii has many beautiful beaches.

Florida is another beautiful state with lots of sunshine and beautiful beaches. Fun Places in Florida to go to Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, Daytona and the Florida Keys, Key West, in particular. Orlando has many theme parks, including Walt Disney World and Sea World.

From Florida, it is easy in the Caribbean by boat. A cruise is the best way to tour the Caribbean,the Bahamas, St. Martin, St. Lucia, Martinique and Puerto Rico are. The islands are beautiful, but very poor. However, the locals are very friendly.

Mexico is another spectacular place to stay during the winter. In addition to Tijuana, the dump, the only places I visited in Mexico is to be Yukitan Cancun and the peninsula, which are very nice. Cancun is one of many resorts in Mexico, built especially for tourists, some others are Acapulco, Mazatlan, and PuertoVaerten. To see the real Mexico, you have day trips out of these cities. The Chichen Itsa's a fabulous Mayan pyramid in the peninsula Yukitan, a day trip from Cancun.
